Did a short run today, 3.5k.  My legs were getting a little tired, but I didn't feel like I got much of a cardio workout. I was tempted to run further, but decided to stick with the Hal Higdon training plan and only do the 3.5k run. Afterwards, I walked another 3.5k and then biked 10k.  In the end, I felt like I got a lot of exercise, but never got the cardio workout I was wanting. I hope trusting Hal on this one pays off in the long run!

Went for my short run, 3.5k, then did boot camp afterwards. I liked this much better than last time when I did booot camp first, then went running. Although it was still hot and humid (85 degrees and 80% humidity) at 7:00am, my body liked this way a lot better. It started to rain, while I was riding my bike home from boot camp. The humdity dropped 20% and the temp. droped about 5 degrees - perfect weather for biking, so I went for a 10k bike ride in the rain, it was wonderful!

Started week 3 of Hal Higdon's 10k training program. Did my "long" run today. 6.5k. Ran around the lake, while my 6 year old rode next to me on his bike. After the first time around the lake, he got so bored, so decided to park his bike and run the next lap around the lake with me. Well, he runs faster than I do, I couldn't keep up with him. If that wasn't embarrassing enough, some guy on a motorcycle pulled up next to me, with a concerned look on his face, and asked me if I needed a ride. My ego is still trying to recover.

Swim day today. Easier to avoid those creepy people on motorbikes when at the pool than out running. Did a lot more fly than I am use to, and oh how my shoulders are aching. Stretch, stretch, stretch.

My neighbor taught me how to make homemade yogurt. Yum. I used the fresh yogurt to make the yogurt museli recipe, found in the "healthy recipes" section , for breakfast. It was yogurt-licious, even the kids liked it.

Did my 3.5k run before boot camp. I found something that is harder than boot camp, getting a teenage son up in the morning to go to boot camp with you. One we got there, he did a great job, far better than me.

Did my short run, 3.5k, then went to boot camp. Today, at boot camp, we did a bunch of  hill sprints. I am developing a love/hate realtionship with those hill sprints. After boot camp, my daughter begged me to go swimming with her. Did a 1.5k swim. After swimming, I thought I would throw in a bike ride and make it like a mini triathalon, so I did a 12k bike ride. Lots of fun, but I may need a nap later today.

My teenage son woke up in time to go for an early morning bike ride with me. We saw one of the strangest looking dogs along the way. The dog was friendly enough, but seemed to have some sort of a skin condition, or disease, so I decided not to pet it.

After we got home, the whole family went for a swim at the pool. What was suppose to be a relaxing swim turned into racing each other across the pool. I am not the fastest runner in the family, nor am I the fastest swimmer in the family. Just when I had completed the amount of laps I  wanted to do, and was ready to go home, my daughter begged me to swim "just one more lap"  with her. I declined, on grounds that I was exhausted . She persisted, with a smile on her face, and said, "But mom, if you swim one more lap, then will have more to put on your running blog." I laughed and swam one more lap with her.

Started the 4th week of Hal's training, today was my "long run" day. Ran alone, which made me realize I need to find a running buddy, one that doesn't mind running s-l-o-w.  My neighbor that runs didn't  get my message, so she went to the pool this morning. My oldest son was sick, my youngest son was still asleep and my daughter told me, "I don't do land sports". My husband offered to bike along with me, but I would have had to get up at 4:30am, I chose to sleep in.

Tired today and really didn't feel like running, but put on my running shoes and did my short run. The first 1k my legs still didn't want to run, but then auto pilot kicked in, and the last  2 1/2k weren't as bad. My friend ditched me for boot camp, said she was too sore from her typhoid shot (somewhat valid excuse) but I found someone else on the end of my run and talked them into going with me. Boot camp was too much strength training today, I prefer the cardio heavy days over the strength training heavy days. Oh, well it's all over with now... at least until tomorrow :)

Swim and bike day. Weather was overcast and pleasant, perfect for both. Did alot of kicking sprints in the pool, and then my biking buddies also wanted to do sprints along the way, so my legs got a good workout.

We had to stop for a minute when we saw these zebras on the side of the road. I don't think they were for sale, and can't figure out why they were there.

Morning run with the Waterboy. The run was so short, he came along more for moral support than to provide water. Enjoyed the company. Went to boot camp afterwards with my son. The morning run didn't bother my legs, but pulling the tires and sprinting in boot camp did. Afterwards, we drove up to the mountains and went for a  leisurely afternoon hike. I love to hike.

    Swim and hike day.

Went for an early morning swim at the hotel pool while the kids were still sleeping. Hard to get a correct distance because the hotel pool was an unusual shape. I guessed the pool was 45-50 meters long and my daughter, who swims, agreed.

After a big breakfast buffet, we went for train ride, then a hike. A beautifl 5k hike, with overcast skies, and lots of interesting bugs for kids to look at along the way. It seemed like there were a ton of stairs on the way up,  but the view was worth every step. The kids decided to count the number of stairs on the way back down. 1,500 stairs each way.  A bit like a scenic stairmaster workout; however, when you are up in the mountains it doesn't seem like exercise, it just seems fun.

Did my long run, glad it is over. I was tired this morning and started out slow, so it  took me longer than I thought to run. I was late for boot camp, but didn;t mind because my calf muscles were still sore from hiking this past weekend.

5 more weeks until my 10k run.

Long night on the train. Tired. Went for a nature walk, not sure how far, maybe a couple of miles.  Played in the pool with the kids, but the pool was too small to swim in. I hate being in a pool and not being able to swim :(  I have set the alarm to get up early and run tomorrow.

I did my short run today. I was on a dirt trail so I don't exactly how far I ran, but I think it was a little shorter than the 3.5k that Hal wanted me to do.  I got sidetracked by a side trail up to a vista. It was only 500 steps, and took 15 minutes to run up and back down, but the view was really worth it.  I figured that in the end, I got some exercise and a nice view too. I even made it back in time to wake all 5 of those kids up and get them all over to breakfast on time. I tried a pancake with fresh lime and sugar on top, it was yummy.

Oh, and I almost forgot, while I was running I saw the biggest spider I have ever seen in my life. I just stood motionless and stared at it, while it stared back at me. Somehow, I was sure it could read my mind and was going to jump through the air towards me and kill me. It was so creepy.

Made up some boot camp class for myself. Got a good workout, but my "made up" class was only 1/2 hour long, not one hour. Went for a short swim to cool down. I was going to try to let my calf muscles rest today, but those waterfalls were too much of a temptation. I'm such a sucker for a waterfall hike, or a good viewpoint hike. In the end, I think the views were worth hearing my calf muscles complain for a few hours.

I wonder what I will be tempted to go hike to tomorrow.

I got voted off the island, the kids all wanted to go to the mall istead of going on another hike. :(  Where did I go wrong?

I did a 5k run on the treadmill. It was my first time to run on a treadmill in several months. Why does a 5k on the treadmill seem easier than 3.5k outside?

Week 6 of Hal's training. I made a mistake and thought I was suppose to do 9k this week,  instead of 8.5k. Once I finished the 9k, I thought I would just do one more - to see if I could. I did! I know I cheated and wasn't suppose to do a full 10k yet, but I'm proud I did it.

Thinking about doing the Riverton 10k. Wondering if I should try to run the whole 10k, or just walk the first few kilos, then run the amount Hal suggests for my training that week.

I had a doctors appt. this morning and didn't go for my morning run. Mistake, the day then  slipped by so quickly. At dusk, I had a tallk with myself. I reminded myself that I haven't missed a single run since I started this Hal Higdon training program 6 weeks ago. I put on my shoes and ran until dark. I think I ran about 5k, then did 10 x 100m sprints.

I bought my first pair of real running shoes, that RAD talked me into buying, and tried them on the 5k run. They felt a little bulky on the 5k, but they seemed to enjoy doing the sprints.

This will be my last run before the Riverton 10k. My soreness from Monday is gone and I think I am ready. Tomorrow willl be a fishing day. Hopefully I can sneak a swim into the day...somehow.
